Controversy is beginning to bubble up regarding two winning designs selected for a recent LEGO Ideas Build the Legacy of the Batmobile challenge.
LEGO Ideas recently announced the successful winners of its Build the Legacy of the Batmobile challenge, a contest timed around the LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight video game. Five Grand Prize designs were ultimately selected, along with five bonus builds, although two of those fan creations have since been courting some controversy.
YouTuber just2good has highlighted the potential issue with the Build the Legacy of the Batmobile challenge, discussing how a pair of LEGO Ideas submissions look an awful lot like a number of pre-existing LEGO sets.
The first of those is iTavix’s The Black Knight Batmobile: A 1930s Legacy, which just2good claims bears more than a passing resemblance to the previously-released 70911 The Penguin Arctic Roller from 2017 and last year’s 43277 Cruella De Vil’s Car.
Also coming under fire from the LEGO Ideas Build the Legacy of the Batmobile challenge is BelgiumBricks’ Lil’Vigilante, a model that seems to be based on previous sets including 3177 Small Car, 70818 Double-Decker Couch and a Toys ‘R’ Us exclusive Flying Batmobile giveaway for the LEGO Batman Movie in 2017.
It’s worth noting that the rules for the LEGO Ideas Build the Legacy of the Batmobile challenge stated that, ‘Builds that are re-creations or improvements of old or current LEGO sets are not allowed, except for Batman related sets.’

While the YouTuber is quick not to blame the two winners of the Build the Legacy of the Batmobile challenge, questions are asked about whether or not LEGO Ideas may have broken its own contest rules and if the creators of those models should be asked to return their prizes.
